A bit about me

I’m a mum to three little ones: Josie, Andie and Bowie.

So while many of my days are spent behind the lens and running a business, there is also a lot of nappy changing, swing pushing, block building, song singing, learning to navigate LOTS of emotions (mine and theirs), Bluey watching and cuddles. I’m in that season of life where I wish time away while simultaneously wondering where it went.

Motherhood: a crazy, messy, beautiful blur.

It’s through my own journey into motherhood that I found my passion for photographing it. I also find this period in life to be so unique and magical - and I truly believe that if there is a time in life worth documenting, it’s now.

…so why photography?

I started out (many years ago) developing my own film and creating prints in the dark room. I then learned how to shoot digitally - which is primarily the method I use today. I’ve taken numerous courses in photography over the years, during which time I’ve entered and won various photography awards.

In my mid-twenties my passion for photography led me to obtain a Bachelor Degree in Communication Design, after which I worked for a packaging design agency in Sydney.

2 years into my career as a designer, my first daughter was born and I decided it was time to give photography a real go. I loved the path to motherhood and wanted to be a part of other women’s journeys to it, including the chaotic beauty of motherhood itself.

I combined my love of photography with the desire to be part of other women’s journey to motherhood and Darcy Simpson Photography was born.

My approach

It’s all about storytelling

Rather than a bunch of individual, staged photos… I like to think of each session as a story - and every photo I capture is like writing a page. Everyone has a story and every story is unique. Telling yours is such an honour.

Capturing the true-you

Let’s leave behind the awkward posing and cheesy smiles. I’m here for the real moments, emotions and connection. And I’ve worked out lots of ways to help make this happen.

Connection, connection, connection

Capturing connection is at the heart of every session. I believe true connection with those you care about is one of the most beautiful human experiences you can have.

Inspired by life & documenting YOUR everyday

I’m inspired by your life. What do you do each day? What makes your family unique? What’s your everyday schedule or what does your weekend look like? Your life right now is your story - it’s not boring, it’s beautiful. My questionnaire helps us get to the heart of what makes you special.

Simple & Timeless

I’m not after trends or overly-done editing styles. I want to give you timeless, simple and true photos that you can cherish for a lifetime.

Fun & Memory-making

This is about creating an experience that is just as special as the photos themselves.
